With unemployment being at its lowest rate in 3 years and the job market picking up, you as a candidate will want to ensure you have your ducks in a row when interviewing for new positions. One major aspect of the job hunt that we often forget or don’t think about until later in the process are our professional references. If you are in the market for a new job, or even considering making a change, one of the best ways to get job search assistance is from a recruiter. Rather than just hitting the big job boards, why not contact a staffing agency directly? One of the lesser-known realities of the staffing world is that not all job opportunities available to a staffing agency get posted on job boards or their website. Posting jobs takes time and money, so typically the highest priority, by client, volume and niche talents gets posted, while the rest are searched for by recruiters through other networks and direct contact. Being a candidate in the job market can be a little daunting. One way to help make your job hunt easier is to work with a quality recruiter. With the amount of recruiters and recruiting companies out there today it is important to find one that is right for you and your needs. Developing a relationship with a quality recruiter can make things move along smoothly, in terms of finding the right opportunities for you as well as the bottom line - getting your resume in front of a hiring manager. The question now becomes: How do you find a quality recruiter? One might even go as far as asking how to find a quality recruiting or staffing company in general. As a candidate you might want to do a little research to find a reputable company that specializes in your industry. You should look at how long the company has been in business and how long they have worked in your specific field. Another indicator of reputation, although not all encompassing, could be the company’s client list. If a company deals with larger, reputable, stable companies that could be an indicator of success because most of these organizations have stringent requirements a recruiting company must meet in order to get approved for their vendor list. Of course, this should not be the only indicator; a minimal amount of other research could be helpful, too.
